صور باقية: By Wadah Mahdi

  الأعمال التي يقدمها الفنان العراقي وضاح مهدي تفتح لنا نافذة على مشهد غامر باللون، وهو لون عتيق وشفاف ومُتفاوت في حضوره وكثافته. في هذه اللوحات تطالعنا وجوهاً طفولية لنساء و فتيات يغزلن بهدوء تفاصيل المشهد بخيوط من البهجة.

قد تتعارض هذه البهجة اللونية مع مشاعر طافية من الأسى تغلف المشاهد المُتخيلة لهؤلاء النساء والفتيات. غير أن هذا المزيج من البهجة والأسى هو ما يُضفي على أعمال وضاح مهدي طابعها الخاص.

تطالعنا هنا أماكن حيادية لمشاهد إنسانية مألوفة، شخصيات ساكنة تستدفىء ببعضها البعض، وأخرى منغمسة في نشاطها اليومي المعتاد كأنها تُمارس طقساً بدائياً؛ هي شخصيات يسكنها الأسى لكنها تكتسي دائماً بلون الورد.

The artworks presented by the Iraqi artist Waddah Mahdi open a window onto a world immersed in a color deeply rooted, radiant presence that shifts in tone and intensity. In these paintings, youthful faces of women and girls emerge softly, shaping the scene with subtle threads of joy.

This joy may conflict with the subtle sorrow that covers these women and girls' imagined worlds. However this precise blend of joy and sorrow is what gives Waddah Mahdi’s its distinctive character.

Here we see familiar human scenes shown in neutral spaces. Characters resting, drawing warmth from one another, and others consumed in their daily routines as if they’re performing a primordial ritual. They are figures inhabited by sorrow, yet they are always dressed in the color of spring.
