Ahmed Karaly
Born in Egypt | Lives and works in Cairo
Ahmed Karaly is an Egyptian sculptor who holds a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts, specializing in sculpture, from Helwan University (1994). His artistic practice began shortly after graduation, notably through his participation in the Youth Salon exhibitions organized by the Egyptian Ministry of Culture, where he received several awards that shaped his early professional development and encouraged broader engagement within the art scene.
Karaly’s participation in the Aswan International Sculpture Symposium marked a pivotal moment in his career, opening the door to international symposiums and expanding his sculptural language. In 2005, he was awarded the National Award for Creativity, followed by a significant period in Italy that marked a turning point in his artistic trajectory. During this time, he initiated his project “Al Masr–Khankeya”, a sculptural reimagining of Islamic architecture, envisioning an entire city beginning from its gates. This body of work was presented at the Egyptian Academy of Fine Arts in Rome (2006) and later at the Gezira Art Center (2008).
Karaly has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions both locally and internationally. His first solo exhibition was held at the Mashrabia Gallery (2004). His practice has since been featured in major exhibitions including the Sharjah Islamic Arts Festival at Maraya Art Centre (2019), and the 42nd General Exhibition of Fine Arts in Cairo (2021).
More recently, Karaly presented the solo exhibitions “Ram” at Azad Gallery, Cairo (2022), and “Jodran” at Azad Gallery, Cairo (2025). He also participated in Art Cairo (2021, 2024), further positioning his work within the contemporary Arab art scene.
Karaly’s works are held in prominent public and private collections, including the Museum of Egyptian Modern Art and the Open-Air Museum Aswan, as well as in private collections in Egypt and internationally.
